Study abroad cycle

Are you interested in studying in Bern? On this site, we provide information about how to apply for a place in Bern, how to study once you're here and what to do after your term at our faculty is over.

Search for information at your Home University and follow its registration procedure.

Once you have been accepted as an Erasmus student by your Home University, fill in our online application, have it signed by your study coordinator and send it to:

International Relations
Universität Bern
Hochschulstrasse 4
CH-3012 Bern

Deadline: 31st March

In April, you will receive an e-mail confirming your application as an Erasmus student and your request for an Erasmus grant.

In June, the International Office will inform you about your grant, how to find accommodation, how much money you need for your stay in Bern, which language courses are offered, when the orientation week will take place as well as about compulsory insurances, etc.

You are responsible for your study programmes; contact the person in charge at your university.

At the University of Bern, your Erasmus coordinator will help you. Be aware that some courses accept a limited number of students.

Once you are in Bern, get in touch with your Erasmus coordinator.

Ask well in advance for exam dates. Be aware that some of the exams might be held after the semester. - Check your tenancy agreement: can you stay in your accommodation as long as needed?

During orientation week, you must register at the International Relations Office, and you have to attend all sessions of the orientation week.

You will receive your personal e-mail account, your University registration card, your grant and you will meet international and local students.

Before leaving, ask for your transcript of records, fill in the form "Notenmeldeblatt für Erasmusstudierende" and send it back to your Erasmus coordinator.

Courses

Language

Unless stated otherwise, the courses offered at the University of Bern are held in German. Therefore studying in Bern requires good or at least sufficient knowledge of German. The university provides specific German language courses which enable to extend the basic German knowledge.

Please note that, although most courses are offered at regular intervals, the definitive educational programme for future terms will only be published approx. 2-4 months before lectures start.

If you are interested in a particular area of study, you should check out the web pages of the respective lecturer. Watch out for information on "Lehre", "Lehrveranstaltungen" or "teaching". If you have questions about any of the courses mentioned, please do not hesitate to contact the lecturers directly or turn to the faculty's exchange coordinator.
